Curdimurka to Marree

10th June

This morning we had two diversions from the Oodnadatta Track before we reached Marree. The first was to Lake Eyre South Lookout, just 10 km south of Curdimerka. The Lake was shining a bright pale blue, as far as the horizon, which unfortunately loked straight into the sun, so was difficult to photograph well. We knew that the edge of the lake was very muddy, so went prepared. I stopped when the mud started sticking to my boots, but David continued, determined to touch the water. His boots were very muddy, as you can see, but he didn’t sink in far.

Next stop was Mutonia, an outdoor sculpture park. The objects were all created from found metal objects by local aboriginal people. My favourite is the big dog, created from an Old Ghan water tank.

After lunch at Marree we set off along the Birdsville Track.
